We have been silent for more time than we used to, until now! Beta 1.5 is around the corner and we would like to invite you to our final tests we do with our habitual forum readers. Step by our site for further details.
We are also looking for translators, as our desire is to translate our modification to every language supported by Steam. It´s not much work really, if you wish to collaborate take a look here.
And what´s new in Beta 1.5? Here´s a brief summary:
* a complete new set of third person animations and poses, get ready for a much higher immersion level
* map fof_desperados, a conversion from an spectacular CS:S map by jackennils
* map fof_tramonto, the final version of our classic map
* dynamic respawn system vastly improved, that´s one of our most distinctive features and finally it has reached the level of excellence we try to achieve in every aspect.
* all in-game text translated to many languages
* moving train added to El Paso
* accuracy stats, type "stats" in chat to know the details about your aiming
* new coachgun and fists 1st person animations
* dual revolvers con be fired simultaneously now

Beta 1.41 is a special version meant for dedicated servers only. It fixes a major bug (server crash) introduced in previous release, and also deactivates the motion blur effect simulating drunkenness. There are present a few significative gameplay changes too. Compatibility with client 1.4 version is total, update your servers as soon as possible, thanks.

Change log:
- Fixed rare server crash when round ends
- Gameplay changes in Few Dollars More game mode: only one loot needed to win the round, capture time increased (1:30 -> 2:10), carrier speed decreased (-25%), no more "waiting for spawn point free" messages.
- Bow damage increased (60->70), much more precision and timing needed to hit targets (using player hitboxes instead the much bigger hull). Notoriety gained has been increased to compensate the higher difficulty, distance to target is also accounted, long hits are specially well rewarded.
- Removed whiskey drunkenness effect due graphic issues
- Whiskey man: initial time needed to replenish bottle decreased (-25%), replenish rate is decreased not so severely after each death.
- Spectator mode now let players fly through the map.
- DeathMatch: sacks are removed when they fall into lava, loot scoring system slightly changed (directly proportional to the amount of money captured) |

Another month, another new beta ready for you. That has been our plan since beta 1.0 and the compromise is still intact. Version 1.4 is our most complete release ever, isn´t easy to summarize the amount of work from a lot of talented people which has supposed. There are 2 new maps, many fixes and changes in existing levels, the much awaited dual peacemakers, many new sound effects and taunts, new music, final vigilante player model and a brand new feature to play with: whiskey!

- Whiskey man: equip the whiskey jug to help your teammates stay alive more time, not meant for personal use sorry! Replenishing rate is key to use it, if you die it decreases. Jug texture by GeorgH, sound fx´s by Stringed Evil. Drunkness effect (motion blur) by Garry.
- map fof_tijuana, level design by Freak/Ryell, sound fx´s by Stringed Evil, sky texture by Henri. This is a mexican village with spaghetti western style. Primary game mode: FoD, also available: FDM, DM.

Fixed:
- Loot target icon getting stuck
- Arrows/thrown objects getting stuck in loot sack respawning zones
Changed:
- Jumping causes big accuracy loss for half second
- Bounty game mode tweaked. There are even player number now, game mechanic is different: players are swapped to opposite team each round, so defense/attack is alternated. Vigilantes (defense) suffers an incremental respawn penalization when they die. Every player starts with 25 notoriety, vigilantes get normal notoriety by kills, desperados only can increase notoriety completing the objectives. Games last 5 rounds, notoriety isn´t restarted.
- El Paso: improved indoors lighting, jerky movement due collisions with props fixed, new zone added in Gold Coin building, player piano added in Saloon (press use to play it).
- Eliminator: new dry look, new textures, new soundscapes, no more random respawning, each team has its own protected respawn zone, position of the crates slightly changed.
- Presidio: ladders fixed, better indoors lighting, new outside soundscape, torches sound added.
- Henry rifle iron sight tweaked for increased visibility.
- Neckerchiefs removed automatically if player has no additional pain tolerance. Colors changed: dark (51-75), grey (26-50), white (1-25)
- Dynamite max time to explode isn´t exact anymore, now it oscillates between 5 and 6 seconds.
- Normal arrows gravity increased +15%. |

This client update is optional but highly recommended as it fixes one of the few major bugs remaining in the game. The icon over player head was wrongly positioned sometimes, leading to confusion among players. This shouldn´t happen anymore using this update.

This is a new update recommended for any dedicated server. It changes a few aspects of the gameplay in FDM game mode and adds a few important fixes and some new features. This news item has been updated to version C.

- New: respawn penalization time added in Few Dollars More. This is meant to prevent constant no-brain rushing. Players are penalized if they die soon after respawn (up to 10 seconds). This penalization is proportional, so it decreases to 0 seconds when player is alive during one minute. Use fof_respawnpenalization to disable it
- Few Dollars More: time to deliver the loot reduced (2:30 to 2:00 minutes)
- fix in over the head icon (progress bar telling the incorrect time left)
- fix: sack becoming unusable when falling on certain places with water
- DeathMatch: added server variable (fof_dmduration) to set the total time for map
- DeathMatch: type "timeleft" in chat to know how much time lefts

Beta 1.35 offers significant improvements in the objective localization system. That´s a critical part in our game and finally here is a much more complete and solid implementation. There are also a few major bugs/exploits fixed, and the usual weapon balances meant to increase the weapon diversity and make the game faster. Player forward speed also was increased a bit and weapon view models are bigger, more natural, the iron sights are easier to use. Finally, this is a mandatory update, grab your version here:

This update doesn´t offer as much new content as past updates did, you´ll have to wait for beta 1.4. There are many good additions to come, here´s an advance: new map fof_tijuana and fof_nowhere redone:
Also feel free to try this water texture replacement if your performance isn´t good enough in those maps with water. Then your mod installation will use low quality water instead normal one, but framerate should be better in most cases.

- Player Hull and eyes position tweaked to reflect more accurately player dimensions (prevents to stand ducked in certain places, and having the sensation you are under cover when is it not).
- Spawn system in FDM tweaked: max distance to find a spawn point reduced.
- Player forward speed increased +10%
- AntiTK system improved: players are banned (but not kicked) in the exact moment the poll starts, so in case they leave server won´t get in again. If player is declared innocent the ban will be removed.

Version 1.3 D adds a few important fixes and new features. The client update is optional, install it only if you want to get rid of some errors:
* fixed 16:10 resolution issue in equipment selection panel
* fixed several Bounty wanted poster issues
* fixed chat and names with some special characters
The server update has some major improvements, is strongly recommended for any dedicated server out there. Any player using beta 1.3 will be able to play without client update, so don´t worry about incompatibilities. Here are the fixes/additions:
* Many fixes and improvements in Bounty game mode
* Spawn system redone, much more effective in all game modes
* Defaultgamemode.txt added in maps/ folder. Use it to customize your default game in each map
* Projectile weapons (bow, knife and axe) damage system tweaked. They will detect hit groups as other weapons do (headshots are possible!). This will increase difficulty because hit groups are smaller than the player hull used in the old hit detection system. So these weapons has been improved slightly to compensate that issue: bow is more accurate, knife and thrown axe speed is faster.
* Sprint consumes less stamina
* New feature: players can equip items during the game, without dying. Once there is added 15nt or more points since last respawn, a chat notice indicates that possibilty, then just select the equipment you want again. However, no additional pain tolerance can be equipped using this new feature. Every item you got will be removed before new items are added to your inventary.

Howdy! Here comes another update for Fistful of Frags, and this is a big one in quality and quantity. Beta 1.2 brought to you a more enjoyable experience, and beta 1.3 is meant to take Fistful of Frags much further in several key areas. Gameplay is expanded with 2 additional game modes, Bounty and Deathmatch. There is a new map called Nowhere, and keep your eyes wide because the mythic revolver Colt SAA "Peacemaker" has been added to our arsenal. Finally, multiple balances and some important bug fixes will make this new version a much better place for all cowboys out there.
Summary:
- Bounty game mode: explore the tactical side of Fistful of Frags.
- Deathmatch "FoF style" added, all the mindless fun you can take.
- New Nowhere map, intense gameplay and strong atmosphere.
- Colt SAA "Peacemaker", the myth has return.
- New menu music, a nice symphonic song you must listen! and some more top quality weapon sound effects.
- Annoying bug fixed (HUD panels flashing), server stability has improved a lot.

There are also big news from the Fistful of Frags community. TDR Gaming is organizing the first clan tournament! - Bounty game mode: explore the tactical side of Fistful of Frags. This brand new mode brings completely different possibilities to our game. Teams are asymmetric in player number and equipment. Desperados have the disadvantage of facing a double or triple number of opponents, but they start with much more notoriety to select their equipment and vigilantes have some respawn restrictions.
There are several objectives in map which have to be defended by vigilantes to win the round, and there is a time limit too. Success or fail won*t depend only on your accuracy, you have to coordinate with teammates, use terrain and buildings to ambush enemy and choose your equipment wisely, taking in consideration the objective to attack/defend.
- Deathmatch added to all maps.
- Nowhere level: spawn in the center of a desert storm and find the loot in a vast underground area.
- New menu music by Contraceptive Spongebob.
- Colt SAA 1873 "Peacemaker", model by Kaskad, uv*s, skin and animation by Racer445.
- New team selection menu, game mode indicators.

We have been playing FoF for some time now, and it was clear that the game needed some tweaks and improvements in key areas. Version 1.2 has been made with the intention of polish and improve FoF in every direction possible, taking in mind we just released another update 3 weeks ago.
Here are some highlights of the new version, check the full change log to know everything behind this update.
- Additional game mode "Few Dollars More", an evolved version of our main game mode. There were added some custom features which will make it more intense and tactical than regular "Fistful of Dollars".
- Fixes: improved stability, knife/axe bouncing issues,"Protecting" message active all the time
- New Maps: fof_revenge, larger/improved versions of Eliminator and Peligro
- New sound fx´s, explosion sprites, props and textures
- Gameplay changes and additions: weapon balancing, movement speed tweaked, game mode enhancements, etc.
- Important: players won´t receive any notoriety due to combat unless it´s related to objectives (player or enemies have loot or are protecting). Notoriety gained by these actions was increased (x2 or even x3).

- Number of crates/objectives decreased in El Paso and Presidio (Fistful of Dollars mode)
- Extended versions of Eliminator and Peligro: they allow more players, gameplay doesn´t change substantially however they won´t play exactly the same.
- Old versions of Peligro/Eliminator still exist as they are now in case they are needed for smaller servers (_lite versions)
- fof_revenge added, some brushwork of this map was made by Fenix.
- New .fgd file for mappers (include the latest changest regarding game modes)
Weapon changes/additions:
- Fists punch animations are faster
- Bow reload is slower
- Coachgun reload is faster
- Thrown axe/knife is -20%/-10% slower, damage is nerfed too (knife 75->50, axe 150->100)
- XBow: arrows need a minimum time to explode, preventing to use this weapon in close range
- Dynamite stick: damage increased +25%
Known issues:
- Some HUD panels flashing / chat freezed when a player connects
- Game crashes when connecting to a server if resolution was changed previously without restarting the game. |

Very good news! Planet Half-Life selected us as their Spotlight Mod. Lot of praises there which go to all those who made this modification possible.
I also would like to comment something about our future plans. We just released Beta 1.1, but version 1.2 is around the corner. Here is a brief summary:
- 2 new maps promoting new ways of playing
- gameplay in our main maps El Paso and Presidio will be retouched to make them more fluid, tactical and engaging
- notoriety won´t be reset after round end: this is a major change in our philosophy, but necessary. Your well earned notoriety won´t be lost, however there will be needed some important additions to maintain the team balance and help those players joining during the round.
- new sound fx´s, stamina won´t be decreased so severely
If we take a look a bit ahead, there also will be a Linux build soon I hope, after our gameplay has been polished. After that there will be added a new game mode, very different from our current "Fistful of Dollars". And finally, there are much more additions waiting, we´ll talk about them once the most immediate plans has been completed. |
